Our take

It’s all about connection. Taylor Swift allows her fans to get a real look into her life, creating that feeling of authenticity. She isn’t an intangible person or object. Rather, she’s a figure for young girls and fans of all kinds to look up to. Through her mannerisms and social media postings she has achieved this. Her demeanor is inviting during concerts, where she interacts with fans and makes each night special for attendees. In one specific example, a concert in Massachusetts was nearly cancelled due to rain back in May at the start of her Eras tour. Swift instead danced and sang through the weather, creating an atmosphere of excitement, and not disappointing fans. Instances like this make Swift stand out in her field, and further strengthen the bond between artist and fans. Through social media she drops hints about future songs and albums, as well as hinting about the past. These hidden clues build excitement and create a continuous conversation around her and her music. There is also an aspect of community in this, where you can relate with other Taylor fans that have figured out clues or are discussing their thoughts on them.

How you can apply this to your business

Relatability and authenticity seem to be the name of the game for Taylor Swift. Your business may not even be in the music industry, but success through authenticity can flow from business to business no matter the niche. Connecting with your own audience through social media engagement and posting can launch your company to the next level you’re hoping to achieve. Creating a persona, or face, for individuals to picture and to relate to your company creates that realness. Even through hand-written notes with each order sent out, or a more tailored email campaign for potential and returning customers can make you stand out over competitors.
