Social media in the past 20 years has completely shifted our world. It is estimated that 4.9 billion people use Social Media across the world. The way we talk, communicate, notice trends, work, and especially the way we market. In this day and age almost every brand is marketing itself on social media. However, marketing on social media is easier said than done. It is quite hard to keep up with all the online trends that come and go, it can be difficult to know where to start and how to market in the world of social media. TikTok is a social media platform that has undeniably taken the world by storm in the past couple of years. Since the lockdown due to COVID-19 people have not been able to put the app down. TikTok has become an extremely powerful tool for businesses if you know how to use it correctly.

Of course, TikTok may not be “the most popular” form of social media right now, it is one of the fastest growing social media apps. In fact, TikTok generated $350 million in Q4 of 2022. This was more than Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat combined. This proves that the platform is extremely relevant. Further proving how relevant the app is, it is the social media platform with the highest screen time. As far as interactions from business to consumer, TikTok outperforms many platforms. About 50% of TikTok users have bought something they have seen advertised, promoted, or reviewed on TikTok. There is even a trending hashtag among all the social media platforms called “ #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.” Google’s senior vice president even said that 40% of young people go to TikTok when looking for a place to eat instead of Google. TikTok users are twice as likely to recommend something they saw on the app compared to other social media users, and 1.5 times more likely to convince others to try their recommendation.

Now of course the statistics speak for themselves to how powerful the platform is, but even with these outstanding numbers there are still other non-numerical benefits from marketing on TikTok. Unlike any other platform, TikTok allows for brands and personalities to create a much more intimate relationship with their consumers. This is why consumers are more likely to purchase and engage with brands on TikTok, because they feel a sense of trust in the brand based on their marketing. Moreover, there is a whole other layer to marketing on the platform, which is influencer brand deals. Whether this is through the form of a review, positive story time, or a downright promotion, this is arguably one of the most effective strategies. Many people are even more likely to purchase something promoted by an influencer over a celebrity. This is because an influencer seems more relatable and attainable to consumers, compared to a celebrity who leads an “unrelatable” life.

This new age of marketing and advertising is rapidly evolving. Even though this can seem overwhelming, it is great news for many businesses. With TikTok, marketing to a vast majority is more accessible than ever. TikTok can be tricky with all of the trends coming and going. Knowing when to hop on which trend and to execute it in a way that will yield engagement isn’t easy. That’s what we’re here for, to help you navigate the world of Social Media.
